Super Sonic Heroes will be a 16-bit demake of Sonic Heroes’ last boss fight: Metal Overlord. It is still in active development.

I want to contribute!

The prototype currently uses various assets from the original games as well as fan-made assets, but they don’t cover the full range of animations, visual effects and sounds found in Sonic Heroes. In addition, I used a mix of GBA and Genesis sprites & sounds for the current prototype, but ultimately, I’d like to offer a consistent experience to the player (pure GBA, SNES or Genesis).

Therefore, I am looking for pixel artists, chiptune composers and sound designers to create custom assets for the game, as well as HD artists and graphic designers for promotional art.

and show me your previous works (Sonic-related or not). If relevant, you can also indicate the console style(s) you want to tackle (GBA, SNES, Genesis + some existing game references if you want).

Note for programmers

I am currently focusing on developing the game alone to build a stable base first. I may, however, need programmers in the future when it comes to menu, cinematic, in-game hints as well as additional characters. If you are familiar with Godot and interested in the project’s future, you can also send me an email.

Context

I started working on the project in February 2024, with the Godot engine. I was playing Sonic Frontiers and became more and more interested in demaking a Super Sonic boss fight. My previous fan project, pico sonic, started as a Sonic 3 demake, but it was severely cut in scope due to resource limitations: it has no rings, no enemies, no destructible prop, no additional character to play. You can collect all the emeralds, but you cannot transform to Super form. This new fan game will have all these features!

I could bootstrap the project under Godot very fast thanks to the huge amount of resources available online: ripped game sprites, custom character sprites and chiptune demakes. A huge thanks to the community!

Assets used

Most sprites and sounds have been ripped from the original games (esp. the Sonic Advance series and Sonic Battle), whose copyrights go to SEGA, Sonic Team & Dimps. Some have been adjusted for the game’s needs.
